Annual Burns' Supper - 2018
hosted and organised by St. Mary's Men's Group
Friday the 9th February saw another wonderful celebration of our Scottish heritage as a community. Organised by St. Mary's Men's Group the annual celebration of the Bard of Ayrshire took place in the church hall.
A sell out event that did not disappoint. Members of our community were joined by a host of invited guests including: Bill Nolan - Chairman, Evan Rush a pupil at our very own St Matthew's Academy who gave a dramatic address to the Haggis. We are proud to have such talent in our church community. The Selkirk Grace was conducted by Paul Meechan whilst The Immortal Memory was delivered by Dr G Carruthers.
The community had their part to play also, singing 'A man's a Man' and 'Auld Lang Syne'.
A wonderful and most humorous 'Toast to the Lasses and Response from the Lasses' was beautifully delivered by Gordon Cree and Margaret Cook.
As if the entertainment wasn't enough, the food was delightful. The Bill O'fare started with a wonderful Scotch Broth and fresh oven baked bread followed by a traditional Haggis with Champit Tatties an' Bashed Neeps, washed down with a helping of Trifle and coffee or Tea.
Keeping with the community spirit the "Family Service" was a great opportunity to socialise and get to know different people.
A very special thanks to our cooks who provide a simply delicious menu for the evening and to Fr Boyd and his team of servers who volunteered their time and effort to contribute to the success of the evening. Thanks also to those who organised and prepared the Church Hall, as the pictures demonstrate, it looked great. a few wee snaps from the night for all to see.
Remember to look out in the weekly bulletin for community events across the year.
We are already looking forward to next years Burns' Supper - we hope to see many of you there!
